At Living Designs Furniture, we are always looking for ways to get involved with our beloved Houston Community! Being a family owned and operated business, we have the unique opportunity to lead our organization with the same core value system that we do in our family. Support is a very key core value for us and it is one of the reasons why we chose to join the Sky High for Kids family this year.
Sky High for Kids is a charity that is determined to end childhood cancer. The Sky High team is saving kids through advanced medical studies and healing families who are battling cancer now through their comfort programs. The Sky High for Kids team is incredible, and we are so excited to join their mission to help fight for these brave kids!
Being a family member, we were given the opportunity to participate in The Annual Houston Sporting Clay Tournament & Banquet. In all honesty, our team didn’t perform very well. Overall, we came in SECOND (to last)! We didn’t take ourselves too seriously and just tried to have fun with it, after all, it was a celebration of hope, and that is what set the tone for the day.
We started the day off in prayer. We heard from families battling pediatric cancer, including a man named Chip, whose daughter survived cancer in her leg with the support of Sky High as a resource. We then released hundreds of balloons as a memorial to all of the children who have bravely fought long battles with cancer — or as Sky High would say: received their wings. After the tournament, we enjoyed incredible eats from the cook-off tents and live music!
The banquet took place the following day, where the auctions closed after raising 1.2 Million dollars! We heard from several committee members and families, including Chip’s daughter! Hearing from these families, and gaining some understanding about what is just the surface of the difficulties that they face, is the very reason we are so passionate about getting involved.
You don’t have to be a family member of Sky High for Kids to help the mission. There are countless ways you can pitch in. Volunteering, donating, and sharing information are just a few!
One of the most impactful ways that we have found to get involved was to fill Warrior Patient Packs! We volunteered to fill 6 Warrior Patient Packs for children as young as three years old in Houston and Oklahoma! After asking their parents a few questions about their personalities and dreams, we were able to fill the packs with personalized, comforting, and supportive goodies to warm their hearts. These kids were so excited to receive their surprise packs that they sent us pictures and thank you letters that melted our hearts!
The President of our company; Youval Meicler, always says that you should measure your success by the amount you can contribute to others. Not just with money, but with your time and actions. Spending your time in service to others makes it worthwhile. We have been blessed enough to give back in many ways and we look forward to the impact of our new partnership with Sky High for Kids.
